The Pinellas County Urban League honored three Pinellas County school district leaders at its inaugural Whitney M. Young Jr. Leadership Awards Luncheon on Thursday.
Superintendent Michael A. Grego, Boca Ciega High Principal Michael Vigue and Lakewood High Principal Robert Vicari received the award.
School Board Chairwoman Carol Cook and School Board Member Linda Lerner attended the luncheon, which was held at the Historic Manhattan Casino in St. Petersburg.
The Whitney M. Young Jr. Award is given to those in the community who help lead, educate and inspire others. The award is given in honor of Whitney M. Young Jr., who led the National Urban League for many years into a position of significant power and influence by helping people struggling against discrimination.
Other recipients awarded at the banquet were Bob Devin Jones, art director at The Studio @620, Art O’Hara, president and CEO of R’Club Child Care, Inc., Linda Osmundson, executive director of Community Action Stops Abuse (CASA) and Lounell Britt, executive director of the James B. Sanderlin Family Center.
