District outperforms the state on Florida assessments

Newly released statewide assessment results from the Florida Department of Education show that Pinellas County Schools outperformed the state in every tested subject area. The 2026 results demonstrate a trend of strong academic performance and student achievement. 

The results include grades 3-10 Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST) Progress Monitoring 3 (PM3) in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics, Statewide Science Assessments, and End-of-Course (EOC) exams in Algebra 1, Geometry, Civics, and US History. 

“These results reflect the hard work, dedication, and belief of our students, teachers, staff, and families,” said Superintendent Kevin Hendrick. “Outperforming the state in every tested area is an accomplishment worth celebrating and a testament to what is possible when we work together toward a shared vision of student success. As we look toward a new school year, we will continue to dream big, set high expectations, and create opportunities for every student to reach their fullest potential.”

District Results:

In English Language Arts (ELA), the district outperformed the state, achieving 64% proficiency in grades 3-10 on the FAST assessments, compared to 61% statewide. Pinellas County Schools outperformed the state in grades 3-5, 6-8, and 9-10.

In Mathematics, the district outpaced the state, achieving 64% proficiency in grades 3-12 on the FAST and End-of-Course (EOC) assessments, compared to 61% statewide. Pinellas County Schools outperformed the state in grades 3-5, Algebra I, and Geometry.

In Science, the district outperformed the state, demonstrating 70% proficiency (grade 5) and 59% (grade 8) on the Florida Statewide Science Assessments, and 75% proficiency on the Biology EOC, compared to 60%, 57% and 74% statewide.

In Social Studies, the district outperformed the state, with 79% proficiency in the Civics EOC and 75% in US History, compared to 76% and 73% statewide.

District Highlights:

  • PCS students who took the ELA assessment in grades 3 – 5 outperformed the state by 6 points, demonstrating a 5-point increase from the previous year.
  • PCS students who took the Geometry EOC assessment outperformed the state by 4 points, demonstrating a 6-point increase over the previous year.
  • PCS students who took the Grade 5 Statewide Science assessment performed 10 points above the state average.
  • PCS students who took Civics and U.S. History EOCs outperformed the state by 3 and 2 points, respectively.
